the kids definitely did not win their gang initiation mugging merit badge

I am incredibly lucky that I did not get knifed

and my my friends and kicking and punching and so on

so they jumped me

like I was too drunk to realize I was being mugged

it is true it works. i am for sure not a wimp. i lived in NYC for a very long time, i got mugged on the lower east side, beat up, fought back, kept my wallet and continued to go out drinking and partying until 4am (I woke up the next day and could not move my neck) and I can tell you nobody likes the annoying low-level stuff - it pushes away people, hurts the experience for those who stay and I think does in time escalate
